big changes

sorry i haven’t posted here in like a week. i went back to “work” on monday (running my zine distro) & i felt really miserable, & after a couple of days of suffering, i decided to close up shop. i announced the closure on thursday afternoon (on the distro website & zine-related places around the internet), fully expecting that it would take the better part of 2010 to actually shut everything down. jared even bought me a digital postage scale (something i have been wanting for ten years) because we both figured i’d be running a home-based mail order business for another year, at least.

but this afternoon, 72 hours after i announced that i was closing, the last zine sold. i am stunned. i had literally thousands of zines for sale & they’re all gone. now i have about seven crates & a boxes stuffed with orders that need to be packed into envelopes & taken to the post office. keeping up with the constant influx of orders (they were coming in pretty much every ten minutes for the last three days) has been overwhelming & i haven’t had time to do anything else. seriously, i didn’t even brush my teeth or prepare my own meals yesterday. (thank goodness jared is still on break from school.) yesterday i started pulling zines for all the orders i’d gotten–just pulling them, not addressing envelopes or packing boxes. it took SEVEN hours just to pull everything. & another three hours today.

but now all that’s left is packaging everything up & taking it to the post office. i still anticipate that this process will take a week or two, but then i will have my life back! & that means 2010 is going to be AWESOME because i can do WHATEVER I WANT. so far, i am looking forward to: watching “dexter” with jared. playing a millionty-eleven games of simpsons monopoly. making lots of homemade pizzas. making fascinators (those little hats with feathers & jewels & stuff on them, attached to hair clips). taking lots of walks & exploring lawrence more. re-reading all the babysitters club books in chronological order. “frasier” re-runs (don’t judge me). the new seasons of “project runway” & “america’s next top model”. writing in my journal. finding a new treatment plan for my arthritis. it’s going to be pretty sweet.

before i sign off to get a jump on that whole “doing whatever i want” thing, i will say that i spent all day on friday laying on a tattoo table, bored out of my mind, alternately staring at some broken fresco tiles on a ceiling & a really disturbing poster for the band tool. but i walked away with this:

pterodactyls = death from above!

there were times when i thought maybe the tattoo artist was just torturing me & not actually tattooing me. i have a lot of tattoos, but this one hurt the most. but it was also totally worthwhile. those pterodactyls are stunning! & i love the looks on their faces, like they are malicious & bloodthirsty, but totally psyched about it.

hopefully tomorrow i will continue: the aughts: decade in review: the xyerraing: retrospective 2010: pajama jammy jam. now i’m off to do things like, shower. wash dishes. scavenge for dinner.

  1. I love the tattoo!

    I’m sad about the distro, but I know how time consuming it must have been for you. You have been one of the best distro’s I’ve ordered from. I’ve found lots of cool new things because of you. But hopefully now you’ll have lots of time to enjoy yourself and make things and pet kitties and maybe even nap.

    Thank you for your dedication to this zine scene 🙂
